Our role as an FSC certified company

It’s FSC Forest Week between 23rd and 29th September – so we think now is a great time to remind our followers and customers that Hallmark is an FSC certificate holder and supplies FSC-labelled products.

What is the FSC, and what does it stand for?

Founded back in 1993, the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) has one main goal: to protect the world’s forests. The organisation understands that paper materials are essential for the economy but invites businesses and individuals to take part in responsible forestry to maintain biodiversity and fight climate change.

What does it mean when you say your goods are FSC certified?

Holding FSC certification means that you can rest assured our paper-based products come from responsibly managed forests that provide environmental, social, and economic benefits.

Deforestation is a huge issue – and one that’s not going away any time soon. Ever since we as a population started using trees as a resource, it’s estimated that more than 46% of all the trees on the planet have been cut down for our own use (according to a study released in 2015 by Nature.com).

Not only does the nonstop, unregulated felling of these trees ruin the landscape and lead to an increase in air pollution, it also disturbs the many species that rely on forests as their homes. In many cases, it leaves these animals facing extinction.

By signing up with the FSC and supporting their initiatives, we’re doing our bit to slow down the destruction of our forests and ensure a more sustainable approach.

Most of the packaging products for sale on our website are manufactured using FSC approved paper. For example, we strive to use FSC certified board for our swing tickets in place of products that are not necessarily from well-managed forests, and our eco-friendly Kraft packaging is all FSC approved. You’ll find that our printed paper mailing bags in the UK are manufactured in line with this guidance, too.

If you have any questions regarding the FSC status of our paper or cardboard products, please don’t hesitate to contact us directly.
