Why is Kraft packaging so popular?

If you’ve had a package delivered recently, chances are it’s been housed in a Kraft box!

We’re seeing Kraft packaging everywhere recently – and not just because it’s got brilliant eco credentials.

Read on for 5 reasons why Kraft packaging has become so popular in recent years, particularly when it comes to creating branded mailing bags and branded mailing boxes. We’ll quickly convince you that our FSC-approved Kraft products are the perfect choice for brands that want to do their bit for the planet without compromising on their aesthetics.

Why do brands and customers both love Kraft packaging so much?

1. It’s recyclable

Kraft boxes tend to be made from either virgin Kraft paper or recycled Kraft paper – and they contain at least 80% sulphate wood pulp. Because of the length of the fibres in the material, Kraft packaging can be recycled with ease – as long as any plastic coatings or windows are removed first. Some products are even made from recycled Kraft paper.

2. It’s biodegradable

None of us like to think that our brand packaging will still be sitting in landfill in a decade’s time. Choose Kraft, and you won’t need to worry about adding rubbish to our landscapes – because the plant-based material used to create these items will degrade in as little as a couple of months, as long as it is allowed to decompose under the right conditions (for example, not just thrown in with lots of other trash, or buried under lots of plastic). Simply add Kraft packaging to your compost bin – without any accompanying plastic materials – for the best and fastest results.

3. It’s reusable

If it’s in good condition and there are no rips, tears, scuffs or stains that will affect its structure or its performance, Kraft paper can be used time and time again in a variety of scenarios. Kraft branded mailing boxes and bags make great homes for future gifts, or they can simply be used to store bric-a-brac from around the home or in the garage. Just make sure your customers don’t reuse their Kraft packaging if it’s been soiled with food products; this is both unpractical and unhygienic.

4. It’s incredibly strong

Don’t be fooled by how unassuming Kraft packaging looks. It’s actually one of the most durable options available, helped in part by the kraft pulping process that’s used to create it. Plus, Kraft paper isn’t bleached in the same way that standard paper is, meaning its fibres aren’t weakened throughout the manufacturing process. This is what gives it its signature brown colour, too.

5. It’s a blank canvas

The relatively simple design of Kraft boxes, bags, swing tags, and other products means that the design possibilities are almost endless when it comes to branding them up for your business. Whether you’d rather go for a simple logo-based template, or you’d like to make the most of the space with a more colourful or intricate illustration, the sky really is the limit! You can also add customised packaging tape to your products for an extra-special finishing touch.
